Case study · Product · Voice coaching

SlickBox4Fun: a boxing coach that talks you through the round.

A free training companion for the heavy bag, the double-end bag, the speed ball and shadow boxing. It calls out combinations out loud while you train, so your eyes stay on the target, not on a screen.

Before the bell

Five choices, then the coach starts calling

  1. Eleven styles: Tyson, Pacquiao, Ali, Mayweather, Durán, Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, Chávez, Canelo and Inoue.

  2. Orthodox or southpaw. Every combination adapts to it automatically.

  3. Heavy bag, double-end bag, speed ball or shadow boxing.

  4. Six levels, from fundamentals (five combinations) to fight sequences of 10–20 strikes.

  5. Set rounds, speed and coaching preferences, then train. Rate the session when the bell goes.

The coachWeb Speech API

Eyes on the bag, not the screen

The browser’s own text-to-speech calls each combination out loud, in the chosen fighter’s style and adapted to the stance, so nothing has to be read mid-round. Every combination is written in one shared notation, the Fighter Combo Library, so a jab-cross means the same thing for all eleven fighters.

  • Voice coaching with no downloads: the Web Speech API is built into the browser
  • Progress tracking: combinations completed, time trained, self-rated accuracy, weekly and monthly summaries
  • Invite-only accounts approved by an admin, with guest training for a first try
  • An admin panel for combinations, users and invite requests
  • PHP with PDO and MySQL behind it, vanilla JavaScript in front

Good to know

A training aid, not a coach’s licence

Who is it for?

People who box for fitness and want structure on the bag without someone standing next to them. It is for entertainment, fitness and education, not professional coaching: check combinations with a certified coach before training hard.

Do I need an account?

Not to try it: guest training is open. Saved progress needs an account, and accounts are invite-only, approved by an admin from a request form.

Can coaches contribute?

Yes. Coaches who want to add combinations or talk about working together are welcome to get in touch through the contact page.
