MCP server generator
Describe the tools you want an AI assistant to have. Get a starter Model Context Protocol server in TypeScript, with typed inputs, safety hints and the config to connect it.
Your project
The setup script is one .sh file that recreates the whole folder. Read it, then run bash create-<name>.sh. Before connecting real data, run the MCP security checker. New to MCP? Start with what an MCP server is, or have me build it for you.
How it works
01
Describe the tools
Name each action the AI may take, write the description it will read, and list the inputs with their types. Mark whether the tool only reads or also changes data.
02
Get a typed project
The generator writes src/index.ts with one registerTool call per tool, zod input schemas, read-only and destructive hints, plus package.json, tsconfig.json, a README and a smoke test.
03
Build and test it
Run npm install, npm run build and npm run smoke. The smoke test starts the server, lists the tools and calls each one with sample arguments.
04
Connect and fill in
Add it to Claude Code or Claude Desktop with the config shown, then replace each stub with real code, one tool at a time, starting read-only.
Questions
Does the generated server work out of the box?
It installs, compiles and starts, and its smoke test lists and calls every tool. Each tool is a stub that answers "not implemented" until you connect it to your own system. It never returns made-up data.
Which SDK version should I pick?
v2 is the current stable TypeScript SDK (the @modelcontextprotocol/server package, with zod 4). v1 (@modelcontextprotocol/sdk) still receives fixes and is what many existing servers and examples use. Pick v1 only if something you depend on has not moved yet.
Why stdio only?
A stdio server is started by your AI client as a local process and is not reachable from the network, which is the safest place to start. A remote server over HTTP needs proper authentication, and the MCP specification describes OAuth for that. That is a bigger job than a starter should pretend to do.
Is anything I type sent to SlickLab?
No. The code is generated by JavaScript in your browser. Nothing is sent, logged or stored.
Can SlickLab build the real thing?
Yes. MCP server development is one of the services: connecting the tools to your systems, least-privilege accounts, logging and tests. Projects are quoted from USD 1,400 to 10,000 depending on scope.
The next step
Want a person to look at your result?
A free tool gives you a first answer. The MCP Server Development service turns it into a plan for your business, with a fixed quote before any build.
